This deep and complete restoration of the main public areas abandoned et degraded, has provided to the populous and peripheral quarter of San Lorenzo, new and innovative places for leisure that favor relationship of all the user groups. The adjacent area of the parish, a timeless quality, became the principal square, tree-lined and decorated with nice seats and enhanced with a skate park and traditional games besides an existing structure converted into a bar kiosk. Along viale Abbadessa, main axis of the district, the asphalt left its place to a tree-lined promenade and a cycle path – on this other main areas are grafted such as the weekly market place and the experimental urban gardens. The abandoned area between via La Torre and via Di Castri has been decorated with game equipments and architectural pavement, lighting, trees and shrubs in order to realize a garden for children. Other roads were redesigned in order to regularize the safe pedestrian way and the stalls for parking cars. The intervention, divided in two functional parts, concerned a total surface area of more than 42.000 sq.m. for a total amount of € 3.100.865,09.
Intervention possible thanks to funds obtained after a public selection on a regional scale within the PO FESR 2007-2013 – Asse VII – Linea di intervento 7.1. It is part of an Integrated Urban Regeneration Program prepared by the Town Council.
