Description
The work concerned the development of unpaved areas located close to the newly built residential and commercial building lots in the south from the E.R.P. partially built to the north with the Town Hall to the east. This area has been therefore conceived as a new urban square, which as part of in the Urban Development Plan will serve as a tool and at the same time an opportunity to elevate the architectural quality of this area. The project has foreseen:
a) the development of the external pavements that run along the perimeter on via A. Moro and via P. Nenni;
b) the development of some areas used for parking;
c) the construction of a roundabout at the road junction where via P.Nenni and via F. Turati meet.
The area used as a civic square covers about 6,000 square metres and is entirely pedestrian, although designed to be accessible to vehicles for the loading / unloading of equipment and furniture in case of special events (concerts, festivals, etc.). The area has also been equipped with green and urban fittings such as benches, public lighting, rubbish bins, bike racks and green areas with the planting of shrubs and trees. The design of the pavement has been structured according to a framework that takes into account the alignments dictated by the imposing portico which characterizes the buildings facing it (lots C) and the longitudinal arrangement of double strips of flagstones with raceways. Inside the aforesaid strips defined by the flagstones, the paving is made up of solid blocks or large green areas.
Characteristics
The total amount of work done stands at € 900,000.00, plus VAT, of which € 878,000.00 for construction work and €22,000.00 for health and safety requirements. The design criteria followed in the drafting of the project were: the provision of bays and exclusive pedestrian areas; dedicated parking places along the road axis; the rationalisation and improvement of the system of pedestrian and cycle ways, both functionally separated and protected; the control of the traffic flow via the creation of a compact roundabout at a road junction whose dimensions allow an easy adaptation without distorting the morphology of the area; urban furnishing and anything else that can be used to increase the well-being and living conditions in the Cozzetto district.
