municipality of Bitonto (Ba)
renovation and re-functionalising of the building “Torre di Cesare” also called “La Contessa” used for Social activities and Cultural and Health equipment.
It is a building owned by a noble and rich family, the Sylos from 15th century, then inherited by Sylos-Labini. The renovation has given a new life to the original Sixteenth Turris Specula (sighting tour), placed along the Royal Way going to the coast, remaking this elegant extra-urban “casino” near the powerful S.Leone Abbey, most favourite place of the noble Matilde, called “La Contessa”.
After a time of neglect, marked by a number of collapses and acts of vandalism, the renovation has given a new life to the building. The walls have been preserved and renovated, keeping some decorative elements, but with the addition of new equipments, windows and doors.
In the execution phase, the original project has been significantly modified to enhance some discovers (decorations, hypogeum…). Work valued at € 982.000,00
it is part of the Integrated Program for Suburbs Redevelopment – financed by resources of PO FESR Puglia 2007/2013 – Asse VII – Linea di Intervento 7.1 – Azione 7.1.2. and therefore conform to the detailed procedures for reporting of expenses incurred.
